6000, even in pounds, is still childs play. you can pay upwards of 10,000 USD for alot of waxes if you know where to find them.
who needs help picking up their jaw? and now i'll watch the vid, but seriously, there's a thread over on autopia that talks about the most expensive detailing products out there, you'd be surprised how much alot of people pay to keep their high-end cars in good shape..and the best part is that you don't really have to pay that much to get a decent to showroom shine. edit: hmm, i like the degreaser idea, i'll have to give that a try sometime, and everybody notice he said CITRUS degreaser. the citrus isn't hard on your car as compared to the petrol based degreasers which are. very good tip there. one small critique is his order of cleaning, if i were him i would clean the wheels and tires first before cleaning the rest of the car. that rinse he did of the soap suds also brought dirt off of the wheels and back onto the car. not a smart move in my book, but hey, if the guys paying him like the results i guess i can't really argue with him. for the wheels i really liked the tool he was using to clean them, i'll see if i can find some good deals on those online. definitely a good way to clean in all of the crevices and get right in there for a good job. coupe, was that sonus clay? isn't theirs a light lime green like that? (i havent bought any yet but am meaning to) damn, bringing hand wax to a whole new level. im actually debating finding a wax similar to that one, although not in price, his application of it is intriguing. well that's my play by play, coupe will be in here eventually with his i imagine. also a little hint, there might be some little meet in the spring where the different detailing guru's of this site will be present to teach others some good tricks and techniques...keep your eyes peeled.

This video and detailer has been talked about extensively on autopia.
The vehicles he works on and his results are not very impressive compared to allot of autopians. If you watch the *click and brag* section you will see very high end cars being done by these guys almost daily with much better results and they don’t charge anywhere near what Paul Dalton does. That wax he is using isn’t the most expensive by any means. Most of us have seen in that video some things that are not the right or ideal way to do it. For instance he washes the veyron in direct sunlight. I won’t even wash my GA in direct sunlight let alone a veryon. If you notice when he waxes the wing that there are still swirls and imperfections in the paint, even after he machine polishes, I would never allow that nor would any true autopian. Like AJ already pointed out, he washes the wheels and tires after he washes the paint, talk about a stupid thing to do. As for waxing by hand (literally) is nothing more than eye candy for the owner of the car. There is no benefit from doing this, no gains to be had. He also uses a paint thickness gauge on the wing then uses a foam pad to polish it, as if there isn’t a thick coating of clear on a 500K super car, again, just eye candy, no function or practicality. He also washes the whole car with the same mitt and doesn’t even do it panel by panel, that’s disaster waiting to happen. Why he can demand such high prices is his eye candy when he is detailing and his marketing. He markets to people with more money than brains. Detailing is an art form. What makes a great detailer aren’t the products used but the technique in how you use them. I could give someone my tools and products and they most likely couldn’t do the same quality work that I do with them. Why is this? Because I spent allot of time learning technique, experience if you will. If you gave Picasso (sp?) a box of crayons do you think his art would be any less amazing? Give Joe Blow a box of crayons and you get a piece of art that is only worthy of being displayed on your fridge. IMO, this guy is a joke. I would rather higher Mike Phillips from meguires who charges $400 for the first 8 hours and $300 for every 8 hours after that.

According to http://www.x-rates.com the British Pound is worth ~$1.85479 at the moment, so it'd be roughly $11,128.74.

here's the thread about the video (iirc it's the same one, they pulled it because site rules were broken). gives you some more insight on the mistakes and such in the video.
http://autopia.org/forum/showthread....xpensive+waxes Also if you want to look at lower priced waxes and other products that still would break the bank, do some research on Zymol. $1000 is an average price, not a high price.

I watched the first 3 minutes of that and had to stop it. If I could have been there I would have stuck his head in the bucket and kicked it a couple of times. A SPONGE(idiot) Spraying rim cleaner outside(more than stupid) not controlling the towel at all as the car is being dried(Dude, you just got fired) That is where I ended the viewing of that one.....
I know there are a lot of professed detailers here and I really don't want to step on anyone's toes, but, North of the Border, I AM THE BEST THERE IS>>>BAR NONE |

rand, if he uses it right and cleans it all of the time then there isn't really a problem with the car bra.
![]() but if he thinks he doesn't have to clean under it..wellllll we know what happens. as for the "sponge" i thought it was one as well at first, but after watching for awhile it started to not look like a sponge, more like a layered cloth. anybody else get that feeling? there were too many suds on it for me to tell.

Absolutely, I'll take a few pics..... The bra is only on for road trips. Living in Ontario and have made 3 trips to Newfoundland in that car Hate putting the miles on it, but love driving it! Car is six years old and driven every day year round(salt, snow, gravel and all!!)I do detail on the side for a couple of guys still. One is a fleet of old Hudson's(23 of them actually) all in enamel>takes 20 hours to do each one inside and out. The other one I still do is for my little brother's friend Kevin. Kev is "Rockstar North". Sorry, that's the company that did Grand Theft Auto, Kev is the designer of the original pc game! He has the most KICK-ASS Supra that I've seen to date. He also has a pair of STI's that I do for him every spring and fall. I now TIG weld full time on Canadian and US military helicopters(Bell helicopters). Engine parts actually. The job is very demanding and have cut down the detailing quite a bit but still love it. The welding pays much better though. ![]() Last notable detail job...got to do the caravans for a couple of Chrysler commercials when Shrek 2 came out and again for Madagascar. Most of what I come across in detailing is just as simple as this. "The Fine Details" If you use a product, use it correctly. When that guy made suds in the bucket...WRONG! Right way=6oz water in pail. Add 4oz car soap. Place pressure washer 1/4" from bottom of pail.1500psi pull trigger lift nozzle toward top slowly building foam as you come up. Reach top of bucket with foam, stop spray!! Use only soap from bucket(NEVER LET MIT TOUCH WATER IN BOTTOM>>>ONLY FOAM) One panel at a time replacing bucket for each panel. You're talking having the opportunity of working on million dollar cars you need to do it right or get out of the kitchen. So, all I am saying is I think that guy is an idiot. Coupe,I think your work is awesome. The reason I never say anything on here is because of you! You get it from what I've seen, and bring a field to owning a car that a lot of people need to be schooled on as well
I just took a couple of pics and will add them here as soon as get them off the camerapics: http://www.putfile.com/mmgt1/images/34006 In the 2nd pic I am showing one place I see a lot of detailers miss! Pull the seals whenever you can and get in there!! Hood to fender in the third. Last edited by MMGT1; 10-11-2006 at 01:42 PM. |

I love talking to others who detail. Thats how you learn.
What i dont like doing is talking to those who obviously know nothing about the subject. Its obvious when that happens. What i notice in those pics is the lack of swirls and scratches. Easy to hide with the right lighting. I inspected your paint around the light reflection, i see no swirls. Niiiiiiiiiice. Anyway you could point a 1000W halogen at your paint or get a the sun directly onto the paint and take a pic? These are a few pics i have off hand. 1000w halogen, left before, right after ![]() 1000w halogen ![]() Interior before and after ![]() In progress ![]()
